A wet spring and early summer have driven mosquito populations up across much of Canada, and the data confirms it. Alberta isn't the only province affected.
The numbers, coast to coast
Alberta recorded one of its wettest Junes on record. Edmonton logged nearly 187 millimetres of rain, almost double its normal amount. Trap counts jumped from five mosquitoes on May 23 to 534 by June 20. The following week, average counts reached 3,753 per trap, an increase of more than 1,200 percent in seven days.
